Our Story
Most of what fills the world of fashion is designed to attract attention in the first three seconds — and disappear from memory in the first three minutes. MAKI began with a different question: what does a person actually want to carry with them? Not a trend. Not a statement that needs explaining. Something that holds its meaning quietly. Something that deepens.
Each piece starts as a painting. Valera Kaplan works directly on natural linen — a material that does not perform or pretend. It holds the hand’s movement the way good work holds its maker’s intention: honestly, permanently, without excess. The result exists once. Not by policy, but by nature — because the specific moment of its creation cannot be reconstructed, only repeated poorly.
We believe what you wear changes how you inhabit yourself. Not loudly, not instantly — the way a new understanding changes how you see a familiar room. MAKI is for the person who is building a life that reflects who they actually are. Who chooses slowly. Who values what deepens over what dazzles.
